The American Friends of the Fry

I am very pleased to announce that the first newsletter of the American Friends of the Fry is here!

The AFF was founded in 2014 with the aim of raising awareness of The Fry Art Gallery amongst Americans in the United States and abroad. We are very excited about the AFF and have high hopes that our newsletter, a bi-annual publication featuring the events, exhibitions, and goings-on of The Gallery, will help us do so.

All credit for the idea of the AFF belongs to Mr David Oelman, but it has been a privilege and a great pleasure for me to be a part of, especially since we had first discussed it back in 2011. Wonderful to see everything starting to take shape now.

Although the Fry's strong emphasis on a fairly specific group of artists -- those who lived in and were associated with the village of Great Bardfield, Essex, from the 1930s to mid 1980s -- is evident, the Gallery has also featured the work of contemporary artists, printmakers, and painters, such as Mark HearldEmily SuttonColin Wilkin, and many, many others.

This October we were also very excited to report that the Fry was awarded £199,000 by the Heritage Lottery Fund. There are plans already to expand the gallery space, and hopefully this grant will also allow the Fry to the further develop the website, and add new pieces of artwork to the already stunning range of paintings, prints, and decorative wall papers currently on display.

I am so looking forward to reporting the progress in our next edition of the AFF newsletter. Stay tuned!
